Slight Redesign of

0 comments suggest edit

So I spent a bit of time today to “refresh” the look of my site. On the face of it, it’s not a dramatic change, but under the hood, I tore out the table driven layout and replaced it with a CSS driven layout.

For you aggregator readers, take a look and let me know what you think?

And if it looks really wack, try a hard refresh (CTRL+F5) because the stylesheet may be cached on your computer. If it still looks wack, try drinking 6 beers in quick succession and let me know how it looks with beer goggles on.

I should also mention it looks better in FireFox than IE.

Looks good from Firefox. The links in your sidebar behave differently from the links in the main body though (from looking at your CSS that's intentional though).

So, when ya movin' over to CS? ;-). As you can guess, I wouldn't recommend it given the hoops I've had to jump through to get mine back to a reasonable semblence of .Text (poo poo Telligent).

Actually, if you look at the link color on Daniels name in the first comment, it's a different color than mine (again, from FF). They both hover to the same color.

Thanks Fellas. Jayson, I'm holding off upgrading till the next version comes out. They changed enough that the release seems like a BETA to me.

Especially since I've heard that they're not going to lock down some of the API till the next version.

Looks good, but it took a lot longer to load than the old site. Given that I'm surfing over a satellite connection from the other side of the world, that's probably more my problem than yours!

I just noticed that on the Post Comment page, the "About Hacked" information shows up below the Comment box in a very narrow left hand margin. I'm using FireFox.

    Hey Chris,

Which version of FireFox are you using? I'm using 1.0.2. and I don't see the what you're seeing. I want to test it out.

As for the slow download, hopefully that only pertains to the first time you hit my site. Let me know if it's slow every time. The first time you hit the site your browser should download and cache my stylesheet (and images). The next time it should be zippier.

But just in case, I reduced the number of items that show up on the main page to 10 (from 20). That should make it a little faster.

I'm running 1.0.1 (oops, time to upgrade). The margin problem seems to have fixed itself and the speeds are much better. The background still takes a little while to load and for the first few seconds, the site kind of flickers. No real complaint, I like the site design.

Thanks for the update. The flickering is a problem with how Firefox lays out floating elements (the text floats to the left, the sidebar floats to the right). The problem doesn't affect IE.

I put something in place to reduce the flickering, but apparently I haven't solved it yet.
