Community Naming

Just a quick follow-up to my last posts about naming NuPack. Looks like the community is not content to sit back and let the project be labelled with a lame name. I’ve seen a couple of community inspired names created as new issues in the CodePlex issue tracker.

However, NFetch has a huge lead, but the community chosen NRocks is a close second. The name I like the best so far is NuGet.

(vote for it here)

As before, voting still closes on Tuesday 10/26 at 11:59 PM PDT. If you feel strongly enough around a name, rally your friends to vote for one. Smile

Oh jeez don't let the community name it. Have you seen all the daft open source project names these guys have come up with? Next they'll be wanting a mascot and we all know where that'll go....

Stand firm, there's nothing wrong with NuPack.

Thank God The command is Add-Package/List-Package or we would have something like List-Nugget | Where-Object {$_.Kind -eq "Vegetarian"}
Sorry bout the lame Joke, but I don't think Nugget is a good name.
If we look into AptGet that stands for: Advanced Packaging Tool. We Can take an Idea that it stands for Packaging.
And This Packaging utility would need to be defined first. It looks like a Pluggable .Net Extensions Downloader for Solutions. Obviously thats not a name, but a definition, as Package Manager is too broad for what this does, this is focused for .net not Windows.
I Think NetGet is a better name.

Note that "Nugget" (similar name to NuGet) is already a project on codeplex: http://nugget.codeplex.com/

It's a WebSockets server that I actually used in a recent UG presentation I did for NBNUG. Although its relatively unknown now, it might not stay that way since there doesn't seem to be any other viable competitors on the .NET platform (and its fairly actively maintained).

Take care!
