Participating in a Fox Sports World Soccer Focus Group

Fox Sports World is undertaking strategic initiatives regarding the branding, on-air look, and marketing of the channels. As a soccer fan (and a friend of an FSW exec) I've been invited to participate in a focus group to evaluate their projects tonight. My main suggestion will be start a new channel devoted to soccer. FSS (Fox Sports Soccer).

UPDATE: Well my main suggestion was unnecessary. Fox is planning to change "Fox Sports World" to "Fox Soccer Channel". We evaluated some logos and slogans and talked about the identity of Fox Sports World. Received some nice swag too including a pen that lights up like a blue glowstick. Great for taking notes at your next rave.

I am looking forward to the new Fox Soccer Channel. I used to watch Fox Sports World alot, but it has dropped off after they stoped showing replays on Monday nights of the Scottish Primier League.

I will have to check up on them now and see thier schedules.

What did some logos look like? I am guessing FOX with a soccer ball for the "O"?

Mike

The logo was more graphical than their typical logos.

Any word on the timeline? And, more importantly, are there any plans to pick up Italian and Spanish leagues?

Well we certainly put it high up on our list of suggestions.

We said we wanted to see International matches (when various national teams meet) as well as games from Bundesliga, Premiership, Italian league, Spanish, etc...

Who are your commentators? One is worse than the other. My assumption is that they are Brits trying to talk like Americans who sound like Canadians.

Or are they Canadians, and therefore just bland because Canadians are just bland people.

The Euro coverage is fine, but your commentators do not speak American English, but rather sound like Brits using very un-hip phrases that mean nothing to a US audience. Even the Euros who watch your show, could not recognize such puerile attempts at cute banter.

If you want your network to have any traction for a US audience, hire some American reporters, and focus a meaningful portion of your telecasts on the US players in Europe, US youth soccer, and the US National team. Your nominal coverage of the US National team's next two World Cup qualifying matches was a pitiful effort.

One more thing, using the plural verb for singular nouns such as the "US side were" as opposed to the "US side was" , besides bad grammar from a US standpoint, just gives your show away as being conducted by a group of English wannabes.

William, I'll be sure to pass your feedback to the Fox Soccer Channel people. I am in no way affiliated with them. I just happened to have participated in a focus group and know a guy there.
