British Music Stars and Soccer In Los Angeles

According to FeedBurner, many of my readers are from London, so I thought you might enjoy this little tale. Tonight, I met someone extremely famous, or so I was told. When I got home, I looked him up, and sure enough, he is huge in Europe. According to Wikipedia, “he has sold more albums in the UK than any other British solo artist in history”. Have any of you heard of Robbie Williams? My wife knew who he was immediately. Must be the fact that she’s a British citizen (she has dual Japanese citizenship as well). She played...

Paul Van Dyk at the Mayan

Anyone here in L.A. going to this? Technorati Tags: Music

This Song Is So Much Fun

I’ve been pretty head down lately with work. But I just had to take a short break to blog this sweet funky song. The refrain is too catchy. You can click on the image to the right to sample the CD at Amazon. I hope to see you soon In La La Land. Something about those little pills unreal the thrills they yield until they kill a million brain cells. I have a feeling he’s not singing about a particular physical location, but “La La Land” is a common term for Los Angeles. Breathing the air here will have the same effect as the little...

MUSIC: My Finger Is On The Button

If you’re a fan of good music (I mean objectively, not subjectively) I plan to recommend a few songs here and there in this blog. Never mind the fact that if you end up purchasing the songs via my site, I get paid. I give you my word, a vow, that I will never lead you musically astray. I may lead you astray in other ways, but not in music. Having said that, let me introduce you to this new single by The Chemical Brothers. I’m a big fan of Metropolis on KCRW. If you live in the Los Angeles area...

Wow! Sasha Is a Resident DJ in Los Angeles

Sasha is starting a US Residency at Avalon. Noticed this on Groove Tickets. That's pretty sweet as he's one of my favorite DJs. Technorati Tags: Music

Olympic Ceremonies Music

When the Olympics occurred, one of my favorite DJs spun for the opening ceremonies. Unfortunately I missed it, but I had heard good buzz about his performance. Now he’s come out with a CD called "Parade of the Athletes". I have a feeling that if you liked the music he played for the Olympics, you’ll like this cd. Technorati Tags: Music

Ishkur's Guide To Electronic Music v2.5

Someday when I have a kid, the young squirt will sit upon my knee and ask: Daddy. What's the difference between Progressive House and Progressive Trance? What does Dub sound like and how did it influence Chicago House? And where the hell does Speed Bass fit in all this? Ha ha whoa there little one. One at a time please. Clean your room and all will be revealed. Well now, I have just the site to show the little one. Ishkur's Guide To Electronic Music v2.5. This flash site provides an exploratory interface to discover the various genres and sub-genres...

Deep Dish

No, I'm not talking about Pizza from Chicago. I'm talking about this dynamic duo: As you can see at the bottom, I'm listening to their remix of Dido's Thank You which won a Grammy. These guys are one of my favorite electronica bands out there. They're much more in the deep funky progressive house area. Somewhat dark, without being too malicious. I highly recommend you check them out. Especially this Dido remix. [Listening to: Dido . Thank you - Deep Dish - Global Underground 021 - Moscow CD1 (7:25)] Technorati Tags: Music

The Hollywood Bowl Does Not Disappoint

I'm no professional musician, but I thought the acoustics at the Hollywood bowl was fantastic. They've been touting the improved sound with the new shell and improvements. The sound was sharp and clear. The opening act played an Eastern influenced set with guitar, bongos, and even some Drum & Bass mixed in there. They were accompanied by Indian dancers on one side and break-dancers on the other. East meets west. I don't believe for a second that the break dancers are from this world. I think they are former Gumby rejects in the way they contorted and flipped. Of course,...

Hollywood Bowl w/ The Crystal Method, Nortec Collective et all

We're going to this on Sunday! Awesome! I better start looking for parking now. The Hollywood Bowl is a beautiful venue. It's nice to listen to some rocking music outdoors under the stars (if you can see them in L.A.) ...

Burning Man Photopedia

I promised a friend I’d show him some pictures of the time we went to burning man in 2002. So of course, I figured might as well make a blog entry about it. For you geeks out there, the Playa (A nearly level area at the bottom of an undrained desert basin, sometimes temporarily covered with water) has a wi-fi network available. Every year, Black Rock City, a temporary city, is formed in the midst of the desert near Gerlach. This city is the host of the Burning Man festival. It's about a thirteen hour drive from Los Angeles and...

[Listening to: Nude Tempo One - 16 - Release - Miguel Migs - Nude Tempo One (3:26)]

I'm trying out this sweet plug-in for the Windows version of iTunes. After installing this plug-in, you can click on the musical notes at the bottom of w.Bloggar and it will insert information about the currently playing song wherever your cursor is located. This page lists plugins for Winamp versions 2,3, and 5 as well as iTunes (the one I'm using). Now you'll all get to experience (from time to time) my awesome music collection. ;) Technorati Tags: Music

Tweekend - The Crystal Method

Pulled this classic CD out of the crate for a little funky listening today. It starts off with a robotic funky track in "PHD" and progresses through some ragin' rock in "Name of the Game" before settling down into a lush soundscape with "Blowout", my favorite track on the CD. Though it lacks the commercial appeal of their earlier hit "Vegas", I tend to favor Tweekend probably because of its lack of overexposure. Technorati Tags: Music

Anthony Pappa Resolution (Solstice)

I've been on a real Anthony Pappa kick lately. Right now I'm listening to Resolution CD 2 Track 12, "Solstice" at home and am blown away at how rich and full it sounds on my piddly Altec Lansing computer speakers. I spend way too much listening to my music turned down real low at work that I don't appreciate how good this stuff can sound in the a half way decent environment. Of course, I'd love to hear this in a PROPER environment. I need to look into getting a real sound system. My father-in-law is a Sony manager/engineer in Japan...
